LOCATION
CAPE is located in Westfield, Indiana just minutes north of Indianapolis.
OUR FACILITY
We have climate controlled buildings, 2 of which are connected by an
800-foot long track. The main CAPE crash hall houses the calibration
lab, two of the three crash sleds, and the barrier. The barrier face is
28’ x 14’ and has a mass of over 1.5 millions pounds allowing tests of
very heavy mass vehicles. Multiple fixtures and adapters can be added
to the barrier face to simulate impacts other than full frontal
impacts. A 24’ x 9’ film pit allows under vehicle video coverage of
large vehicles. The outside track is suitable for a vehicle to vehicle
type testing. The other buildings house the third crash sled, rollover,
quasi-static, impact, airbag and pyrotechnic and vibration test
centers. Our observation rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art
technology allowing you to review the events captured by digital
imagers and a data acquisition system immediately after the test. We
have a fully equipped machine shop for fixture fabrication. We have
secure work bays to accommodate virtually any size vehicle for test
preparation and fabrication and a staff that can quickly respond to
your testing challenges including test component modifications if
required.
CONFIDENTIALITY
The layout of the entire facility has been designed specifically to
maintain confidentiality for our customers, even for outdoor testing.
QUALIFIED AND DEDICATED STAFF
While buildings and equipment provide useful tools, it is our staff
that can leverage these tools to get the job done. In addition to
engineering and technical personnel to support your project needs, CAPE
is unique in that we employ an Applied Mechanics Engineering staff that
can provide engineering modeling and analysis support to a wide range
of vehicle and component projects. This engineering simulation team
uses advanced tools such as MSC/Marc, Patran, MADYMO, LS-Nike and
LS-Dyna for structural analysis, vehicle dynamics, crashworthiness
analysis and occupant simulations.
